Afternoon Activities

Cefn Lea has a wide range of things to do, including an indoor sports hall, play room, and playground. Look for these semi-organised activities which could be happening for FREE during the conference:

Various MASTERCLASS activities will be on offer during the week. These will involve a cost per person and must be booked in advance:

MASTERCLASS Escape Rooms

These games are for everyone — no exceptions! Get ready to laugh strategise, and race against the clock as you and your team tackle puzzles together in Operation Mindfall. Teams of six players (Age 10+; under 16 need a booked adult sidekick).

MASTERCLASS Handwork Craft

Enjoy a time of handwork as you make a journal or psalter cover to take home. All materials and instruction will be provided. (Age 8+)

MASTERCLASS Cookery Demonstration

Have you wondered how to make those delicious Welsh cakes, or Irish soda bread? Now is your time to learn how they are made and watch the experts at work! Recipes will be provided. (Age 8+)

MASTERCLASS Needle Felting

Enjoy learning the relaxing art of needle felting under the skilled tutelage of our instructor. All materials will be provided. (Age 12+)

MASTERCLASS Axe Throwing

Calling all would-be lumberjacks!  Try your hand at axe throwing, aiming to hit the bullseye, whilst having a good deal of fun. Inflatable axes are available for those less brave. (Age 8+)

MASTERCLASS Sewing Craft

Make a bespoke pin cushion or fabric star to remember your time at Cefn Lea.  Come and learn a new skill or hone your technique with our conference instructor. (Age 12+)

HISTORY WALK Newtown Heritage Trail

This town trail is an adventure for all the family. Enjoy learning about Newtown’s rich and surprising woollen and textile heritage. 1.4miles/Easy.  Meet at Newtown carpark.

HISTORY TALK Laura Ashley

Come along and hear about Laura Ashley’s business acumen from Roman Holiday to Princess Diana. Learn about her local links to Welsh printing and textiles, much of this based in nearby Newtown. (Age 12+)

BUS TRIP Gregynog Hall Gardens

Enjoy a relaxing walk through the Grade 1 listed gardens, dating from at least the 1500s, at this historical and picturesque landmark.

OUTING Farm Tour

This tour of a farm by a farmer will offer an up-close look at a local dairy farm.  Own transport is suggested.

Red Ridge Activity Centre

This exciting activity centre has been booked for the afternoon exclusively for our group.  Choose from activities on the lake, up in the air, or down in the ground. (Age 10+)

FAMILY OUTING

Powis Castle

Take a trip to visit this National Trust property which rises dramatically above the Welsh countryside.  See its famous yew tumps in the gardens, and explore the world-class paintings, furniture and tapestries inside the castle buildings.
